First the good news: this is a well-written book despite being formulaic and a bit predictable. The main characters are likeable and grow during the book's progression, which is something I like to see.Now the bad news: there is more violence, especially sick/twisted violence, than I usually care for. I almost stopped reading several times due to the villain and some of the things he does. The author compensates a bit for this by preaching the cost of gratuitous violence in movies and media - despite her book actually fitting the description.
Overall, it is a good book, but the violence was definitely off-putting.

Nightmare in the Woods edition by Sue Fineman Romance eBooks Reviews
Loved it
For the most part I was surprised how the story held together. It was a good and easy read. I recommend this book to those who are looking for a romantic fast paced story.
Rather a scary start but then the race was on to become safe. At times the story took you on a bit of a roller coaster ride with ups and downs and off to side turns. The baddie seemed to get off rather easy which bothered me somewhat. Enjoyable story that was reasonably predictable apart from the ride itself...
this book really surprised me ..it started out full of adventure suspense and sadness and kept getting better..it was the best reading I have had in ages...it never let up..the suspense kept coming and coming....I would read it again because it was just so fast paced and full of wonder .I stayed up late to keep reading it....if you want a book filled with everything...this book is for you...
With Amazing attention to detail, this suspense novel is beautifully written and the characters are so real. I loved this book. It is always possible to put down a book. In Nightmare in the Woods I didn't want to put it down. Sue Fineman weaves a compelling tale of violence, attraction, and suspense...with love stories thrown in for good measure. Compassionate and true to life.
Nightmare in the Woods was suspenseful with an equal focus on romance. Tess, suffering at the hands of a madman (Larry), barely escapes to a cabin in the woods where she meets John. Once John understands the situation he takes it upon himself to protect Tess while aiding the police in Larry's capture. Meanwhile John and Tess fall in love.
I liked Tess and John- despite Tess's horrible experience the author made her both fragile and strong. Never whiny or too much like the "damsel in distress". John was a take charge kind of guy in some aspects of his life but nice. I liked that they matured as individuals throughout the story; made me really want to root for the two of them.
However... based on how evil and vile the villain was...how Tess was tortured for over a week... and the fact that Larry was forever on the hunt to track Tess down and make her pay for leaving him, I found it a bit far-fetched that the romance would happen so quickly. The progression from protector to lover was within a week or two of meeting. Not even 40% into the book and they were already talking about love. I also found it a little too pat how Tess just fit right into John's world and that there was only one snafu to the perfect relationship (I won't spoil it).
If one were to take Larry out of the plot there would be no meat to the story at all. A little better than okay, so 3.5 stars for me. I would read another of Fineman's work.
This book is a departure from the others I've read by this author. The villain isn't just a bad guy, he's a twisted sicko. The scenes with him are chilling, to say the least! The book is definitely more of a thriller than romantic suspense.
That said, I like the natural flow of the romantic elements, not the typical boy meets, boy loses romance. Two people thrown together in a nightmare who become attracted along the way. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, as usual for a Fineman book!
If you enjoy page-turning excitement with romance, and can handle some twisted violence, you'll enjoy this book as much as any other Sue Fineman book.
First the good news this is a well-written book despite being formulaic and a bit predictable. The main characters are likeable and grow during the book's progression, which is something I like to see.
